Health Education

The goal of the Community Health Educator is to inform, educate and empower the people of Johnson County about health issues. The Health Educator designs, promotes, and implements programs which result in healthy positive behaviors among individuals, families, and groups of all ages in the community.

Community Health Education reaches out into the community by providing outreach services through health fairs, worksite and community screenings and programs, and classroom education to reach the youth as well as adults. These services are provided in day-cares, schools, businesses, churches and other community organizations. Topics often include but are not limited to dental health, nutrition, physical activity, diabetes, tobacco cessation and hygiene.

The Community Health Team is always ready to provide a presentation to any civic club or group that has an interest in a health topic.  You may contact Mary Beth Castle/[email protected] , Jill Delong /[email protected], or call 606-789-2590 to a presentation.

If you or someone you know is interested in participating in the next Freedom From Smoking or Diabetes Prevention Program, please contact Mary Beth Castle or Jill Delong.

The MY PLATE model is used to teach balanced nutrition to all ages.

5-2-1-0 is the Childhood Obesity Prevention program used to promote 5 fruits and veggies, less than 2 hours of screen time, 1 hour of physical activity and 0 sugary drinks each day.

With Kentucky having some of the nation’s highest rates of dental issues, it’s important that Dental Health be taught from an early age. Programs are available for ages pre-k to 6th grade in all local schools.
